MIRARCO is moving to the Cliff Fielding Research, Innovation and Engineering Building
MIRARCO (Mining Innovation Rehabilitation and Applied Research Corporation) is moving its main offices to the second floor of Laurentian University’s Cliff Fielding Research, Innovation and Engineering Building. MIRARCO was established in 1998 as a not-for-profit research arm of Laurentian University and since its inception has developed over 100 HQPs (Highly Qualified Persons) and managed over $100 million in projects.
This move provides an opportunity to evolve the mandate of MIRARCO to support efforts that build Laurentian University as Canada’s Mining University.
In the fall of 2019, Jennifer Abols was appointed as MIRARCO’s President & CEO, as well as the Executive Director for Laurentian University’s Goodman School of Mines. Abols is the first person to hold both positions concurrently. During her first year Abols focused her efforts on aligning MIRARCO with industry needs, increasing awareness of MIRARCO as the partner-of-choice for applied research in mining and forging stronger relationships with partners and stakeholders.

About the Cliff Fielding Research, Innovation and Engineering Building:
The 60,000-square-foot facility is one of the latest additions on Laurentian University’s campus and it is located in Founders’ Square, between the Parker and Fraser buildings. It houses all engineering labs (mining, chemical and mechanical), a lecture theatre, a collaborative research hub for all the Laurentian research centres, the Perdue Central Analytical Facility (PCAF) and the Jim Fielding Innovation and Commercialization Space.

La Société de recherche appliquée en innovation minière et de réhabilitation (MIRARCO) emménage ses bureaux principaux au deuxième étage de l’Édifice de recherche, d’innovation et de génie Cliff-Fielding à l’Université Laurentienne. Créé en 1998, MIRARCO est un centre de recherche sans but lucratif à l’Université Laurentienne qui a formé une centaine de professionnels hautement qualifiés (PHQ) et géré des projets totalisant plus de 100 000 000 $ au cours de son histoire.
Le déménagement présente une occasion de faire évoluer le mandat de MIRARCO afin d’appuyer les efforts qui feront de la Laurentienne l’université du Canada par excellence pour l’exploitation minière.
À l’automne 2019, Mme Jennifer Abols a été nommée PDG de MIRARCO et directrice générale de l’École des mines Goodman à la Laurentienne, la première personne à exercer les deux rôles en même temps. Pendant sa première année en fonction, elle a travaillé pour harmoniser MIRARCO avec les besoins de l’industrie, faire connaître MIRARCO comme un partenaire de choix pour la recherche appliquée en matière de mines et nouer des liens plus solides avec les partenaires et les intervenants.

Au sujet de l’Édifice de recherche, d’innovation et de génie Cliff-Fielding
Les installations de 60 000 pieds carrés sont l’un des plus récents ajouts au campus de l’Université Laurentienne. Situé sur la Place des fondateurs, entre les édifices Parker et Fraser, le bâtiment héberge tous les laboratoires de génie (minier, chimique et mécanique), un amphithéâtre, un carrefour de recherche en collaboration pour tous les centres de recherche de la Laurentienne, le Centre d’analyse Perdue et l’Espace d’innovation et de commercialisation Jim-Fielding.
