Dean of Management

STEPHEN J. HAVLOVIC, Ph.D. (Steve) is Dean of the Faculty of Management at Laurentian University (LU). Since his arrival at LU in 2013, he has helped the Faculty become eligible for AACSB International and EPAS accreditations. Steve served as a management member of the collective bargaining team for the LUFA negotiations. He is also a Professeur Invité at IAE-Lille (France) where he teaches International Human Resource Management. Prior to his arrival at LU, he was Provost & Vice President for Academic Affairs at the State University of New York at Alfred. He served as Dean of the School of Management at the SUNY Institute of Technology at Utica/Rome where he led the faculty to initial AACSB International accreditation. Steve was a tenured Professor of Human Resource Management at the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater and Simon Fraser University (SFU). While at SFU, Steve received the “Canada Trust Distinguished Teacher Award”. Shortly after the collapse of communism in Eastern Europe, Steve taught Human Resource Management courses in Poland and Czechoslovakia. Prior to his academic career, he worked in Labor Relations for the Ford Motor Company and in Human Resources for the Ohio Edison Company. His research publications focus on topics involving quality of work life and industrial democracy. In 1993, Steve won the best paper prize from the Journal of Organizational Behavior, and in 1999, he received the best paper award from the Administrative Sciences Association of Canada. Steve received his Ph.D. in Labor & Human Resources with a minor in Industrial & Organizational Psychology from The Ohio State University. Steve is a member of Rotary International of Sudbury, Ontario, the Canadian Industrial Relations Association, and the International Industrial Relations Association. Steve and his family have hosted international exchange students from Austria, Belgium, Brazil, France, Germany, Japan (2), and Mexico.
