Congratulations Mr. Ned Goodman!
We wish to congratulate Mr. Ned Goodman for his induction into the IIAC Investment Industry Hall of Fame! – http://iiac.ca/halloffame/
Ned Goodman has made many contributions to Canada’s mining, real estate and financial services industries. He has been a company builder, merchant banker and investment advisor during a career spanning over fifty years. He applied his geological training and business acumen to help build several successful mining companies – notably International Corona and Kinross Gold – and nurtured many other mineral producing companies through astute and timely investments.
Mr. Goodman, along with his partners, founded the first exploration flow-through partnership, CMP Group, which has raised almost $5 billion since the 1980s to develop mining and petroleum companies, generating jobs and other benefits for rural and northern economies in Canada.
In 1967, Mr. Goodman and his business partner, Austin Beutel, established Beutel, Goodman & Company Ltd. which has grown to over $15 billion of assets under management today. In 1991, Mr. Goodman left Beutel Goodman to start Dundee Corporation which became the home of Dynamic Funds, DundeeWealth Inc. and Dundee Realty (now DREAM). Collectively these companies grew to oversee over $100 billion of third party assets.
In 2012, Brock University’s business faculty was renamed the Goodman School of Business in recognition of a transformational gift made to the school by the Goodman Foundation. The generous donation provided key capital for an ambitious $22 million expansion and reconstruction of the Goodman School facility.
Mr. Goodman served as Chancellor of Brock University and founded the Goodman School of Mines at Laurentian University as well as the Goodman Institute of Investment Management at Concordia’s John Molson School of Business.
Mr. Goodman was awarded the Order of Canada “for his contributions to Canada’s investment industry and for his philanthropic support for higher education, culture and health care”. He was named PDAC’s Developer of the Year in 1989, the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year for Ontario in 2004 and earned the Morningstar Investment Career Achievement Award in 2005. In January 2012, he was inducted into the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame and in October 2012 the Fraser Institute awarded him the T. Patrick Boyle Founder’s Award.

Ned Goodman a apporté une contribution importante aux secteurs canadiens des mines, de l’immobilier et des services financiers. Au cours d’une carrière s’étendant sur près de 50 ans, il a été bâtisseur d’entreprise, banquier d’affaires et gestionnaire de fonds. Grâce à sa formation en géologie et à son sens des affaires, il a contribué à bâtir plusieurs sociétés minières prospères – notamment International Corona et Kinross Gold –, et par des investissements astucieux et opportuns, il en a fait croître bien d’autres.
De concert avec ses associés, M. Goodman a fondé la première société de personnes intermédiaire d’exploration, CMP Group, laquelle a amassé près de 5 milliards de dollars depuis les années 1980 pour mettre sur pied des sociétés minières et pétrolières et ainsi générer de l’emploi et d’autres retombées pour les économies rurales et nordiques du Canada.
En 1967, M. Goodman et son associé Austin Beutel fondent Beutel, Goodman & Company, qui compte aujourd’hui plus de 15 milliards de dollars en actifs sous gestion. En 1991, M. Goodman a quitté Beutel Goodman pour partir Dundee Corporation, qui regroupera plus tard les Fonds Dynamique, DundeeWealth Inc. et Dundee Realty (aujourd’hui DREAM). Collectivement, ces entreprises gèrent plus de 100 milliards de dollars pour leurs clients.
En 2012, l’Université Brock renomme sa faculté de commerce la Goodman School of Business, afin de souligner le don substantiel qu’elle a reçu de la Fondation Goodman. Grâce à cette généreuse offrande, l’établissement obtient les fonds nécessaires à la réalisation d’un ambitieux projet de 22 millions de dollars visant l’agrandissement et la reconstruction du bâtiment de la Goodman School.
Goodman a été chancelier de l’Université Brock. Il a en outre fondé l’École des mines Goodman de l’Université Laurentienne et l’Institut de gestion des placements Goodman de l’École de gestion John-Molson de l’Université Concordia.
Goodman a été décoré de l’Ordre du Canada « pour sa contribution à l’industrie des valeurs mobilières du Canada et pour son soutien philanthropique à l’enseignement supérieur, à la culture et aux soins de santé ». Il a reçu le prix Entrepreneur de l’année de l’ACPE en 1989, le prix Entrepreneur de l’année pour l’Ontario d’Ernst & Young en 2004 et le Prix pour une carrière exceptionnelle de Morningstar en 2005. En janvier 2012, il a été intronisé au Temple de la renommée du secteur minier canadien et, en octobre 2012, l’Institut Fraser lui décerne le Prix du fondateur T. Patrick Boyle.
