Mining Innovation, Rehabilitation, and Applied Research Corporation (MIRARCO) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Chris Lane as the new Director of Software, effective September 29, 2020.
MIRARCO’s Software Centre consists of specialists in mining engineering and software development. They conduct applied research for mining and are developing the next generation of decision-support tools. Currently, the team are working on the Federal government and industry funded Natural Heat Exchange Engineering Technology (NHEET) research project and the development of MoFrac, a discrete fracture network tool used for a variety of rock engineering applications.
Dr. Lane is a professional engineer with a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Dalhousie University. His industry and academic research background are focused on modelling and design of commercial processes. Dr. Lane’s research is focused on commercial technologies that improve Canada’s global economic competitiveness while reducing overall environmental impact. Prior to joining MIRARCO, Dr. Lane’s work has contributed to industrial technology development supporting Syncrude Canada Ltd., NORAM Engineering Ltd., and Titanium Metals Corporation.
Jennifer Abols, the President and CEO of Mirarco remarked, “Chris is a great fit for Mirarco. His modelling, commercial design and project management experience – working on industry sponsored projects – are ideal pre-requisites for this position. I am confident Chris will deliver our Software projects successfully and help position MIRARCO as the innovative research partner of choice for mining.”

La Société de recherche appliquée en innovation minière et de réhabilitation (MIRARCO) est heureuse d’annoncer la nomination de M. Chris Lane, Ph.D., au nouveau poste de directeur des logiciels, avec entrée en fonction le 29 septembre 2020.
Le Centre de logiciels de MIRARCO est composé de spécialistes en génie minier et développement logiciel qui mènent des recherches appliquées pour l’exploitation minière et mettent au point la prochaine génération d’outils d’aide à la décision. L’équipe travaille actuellement au projet de recherche Technologie d’ingénierie en vue de l’échange de chaleur naturelle pour les mines (NHEET) financé par le gouvernement fédéral et l’industrie et à l’élaboration de MoFrac, outil de réseau discret de fractures utilisé dans diverses applications de mécanique des roches.
Ingénieur titulaire d’un doctorat en génie chimique de l’Université Dalhousie, M. Lane a des antécédents de recherche industrielle et universitaire axée sur la modélisation et la conception de procédés commerciaux. Dans ses recherches, il s’intéresse aux technologies commerciales qui rehaussent la compétitivité économique du Canada dans le monde tout en réduisant les retombées environnementales en général. Avant de se joindre à Mirarco, M. Lane a accompli des travaux contribuant à la mise au point de technologies industrielles qui appuient Syncrude Canada Ltd., NORAM Engineering Ltd., et Titanium Metals Corporation.
