Goodman Gold Challenge 2020

The following pictures were taken during the Goodman Gold Challenge 2020.

On Thursday, all of the teams, sponsors and judges arrived in Sudbury for the Opening Gala event sponsored by Dundee Corporation. There was a random draw to determine which teams would be competiting against each other in the first round of presentations.

Following the Opening Gala, everyone attended a Social Event sponsored by Canaccord Genuity. The social event was open to the public!

On Friday, the teams got to hear from and meet one-on-one with the CEO and President of Lundin Gold, Ron Hochstein, Marathon Gold Corporation’s CFO Hannes Portmann, and the President and CEO of Maritime Resources and Laurentian Alum, Garret Macdonald.

The interaction with industry experts doesn’t end with the case companies. The gold level sponsorship allows for the sponsor to send a representative from their company to judge the competition. This year the judging panel consisted of highly experienced executives from Canaccord Genuity, Dundee Corporation, Kinross Gold, Nighthawk Gold Corp., Orix Geoscience, Osisko Mining, RBC Capital Markets, Technica Mining and Wesdome. The teams got to meet with each judge for 10 minutes in one-on-one sessions where they could receive guidance, feedback and ask questions from these highly experienced individuals.

Saturday was the final day of the Goodman Gold Challenge/ Défi d’or Goodman! Teams presented to the panel of judges and the top three teams were selected to advance to the final round of presentations! Those teams were the University of British Columbia, McGill University and the University of Manitoba.

At the Final Round of Presentations, the judges and everyone in attendance were extremely impressed with each team’s analysis and justification for their choice. The winner would be announced at the Awards Gala later that evening.

At the Awards Gala teams had the opportunity to mingle with the sponsors, judges and community members. Terry MacGibbon, Chairman of INV Metals and a Canadian Mining Hall of Fame Inductee gave an inspiring speech to the attendees about green mining.

Following dinner and the keynote presentation, the University of British Columbia was crowned the winner for their solid and in-depth analysis of Marathon Gold Corporation and their explanation for why they selected them over the other case companies! The team went home with the cash equivalent of four ounces of gold!

Congratulations to the University of British Columbia for winning the 4th Annual Goodman Gold Challenge and thank you to all of the sponsors, judges, and teams that made this event so successful!
